To all of our students,
Welcome back! We have missed seeing you in the media center. Tune in here for any announcements of upcoming events. As always, when doing homework or class research, you will find convenient links to all of the online resources right here at the Media @ the Mountain page. If you have any questions or would like additional information, you can drop by the media center and speak with Ms. Lanford, Mrs. Holcomb, or Mrs. Crouse. We are always glad to assist you, and we look forward to seeing you as the year progresses!
The following is especially for our Freshmen students and parents...
We want to welcome you to the KMHS Virtual Library. Here are a few things you need to know about the media center
1. The physical Media Center:
-
We have over 16,000 books in our collection.
-
The online catalog is called Destiny and can be accessed 24 hours a day from home and at school. A password is required for home access and is available from the media center.
-
The media center opens at 7:30 each morning. The afternoon closing time varies by day of the week. Please see the Destiny home page for the daily closing times.
-
Students may checkout a maximum of 5 items for a period of 3 weeks. Reference books and magazines are available for overnight checkout only. Overdue fines are charged on late items at the rate of 10 cents per day for regular checkout and one dollar a day for reference books and magazines.
-
Students must have their ID card with them in order to check out books.
2. Printing:
Making copies and printing for academic purposes is allowed in the media center at the rate of ten cents per page for B&W and fifty cents per page for color.
3. Computers and the School Network:
- There are 36 computer stations in the media center available for students to use; they must be checked-out at the circulation desk prior to use.
- Only school-owned computers are allowed access to the school network.
- Students are strongly encouraged to use flash drives to transport files to and from school. Using email to send files to school is NOT reliable. Flash drives are available in the media center for students to check out; the loan period is 3 days.
4. Cobb Virtual Library:
Resources found on the Cobb Virtual Library are available for use by all Cobb students and their parents. Home access requires a user name and password which can be obtained in the media center. There is also a link from the CVL to the state GALILEO collection of databases. GALILEO is likewise password-protected: passwords change quarterly and can be obtained in the media center.
