9/30/11 More Factoring & Solving Trinomials with a not = 1

• Today, we reviewed and practice more factoring and solving quadratic trinomials with a not =1, using grouping or the "slip & slide" method.
• Homework: Students had over 30 minutes in each class to complete this assignment. Complete the Factoring Trinomials Worksheet (fromt side) # 1- 10 all (4 of these problems have a GCF) & Solving Quadratic Equations by Factoring Worksheet (back side) # 1- 11 all.   Download Factoring & Solving Quadratics Worksheet

9/29/11 Factoring Trinomials with a not = 1 and Solving Equations by Factoring

• Today, we learned two methods for factoring trinomials when a does not = 1. The first method involved grouping, and the second method is called "slip & slide".
• Homework: From your textbook, complete Pg. 80 # 1, 3, 5 - 10 all, 19 - 21 all, & 26.  Problems 1, 3, & 5- 10 are factoring problems. Problems 19 -21 & 26 are solving equations by factoring.
• Retest for Graphing Quadratics is next Tuesday and Wednesday mornings at 7:30 and afternoons at 3:35.

9/28/11 Factoring Trinomials with a=1 & Solving by Factoring

• Today, we reviewed how to factor trinomials with a = 1 using the Product/Sum Method. We also reviewed solving quadratics by factoring.

• Homework: From your textbook, complete Pg. 76 # 1 - 9 odd, 19 - 29 odd, 36 & 38. All the problems are factorable. Please check your odd answers with the answers provided in the back of the textbook.

9/27 More Factoring by Grouping

• Students reviewed factoring by grouping.
• Classwork: From the worksheet, students in 3rd & 4th block completed problems #2, 4, 5, 7, 11, 13 & 15 in class.
  
• Homework: From the Factor by Grouping Worksheet, complete the following problems # 1, 3, 6, *8, *12, 16 - 20 all. For problems 8 & 12, you have to be rearrange the terms before you group! Problemss 16 -20 have a GCF also!    Download Factor by Grouping Alg 1

9/26/11 Review of Factoring Using GCF & Grouping

• Today, we reviewed factoring using GCF (Greatest Common Factor) & Grouping. We also reviewied difference of squares.
• Homework: Please complete the Review of Factoring Worksheet. Students had at least 20 minutes to complete this assignment in class.   Download Review of Factoring Worksheet

9/22 Review for Graphing Quadratics Test

• Today, we reviewed for tomorrow's test over graphing quadratics. Students were given the majority of class time to finish last night's review packet. The solutions with all work shown was shared with each student.

9/21/11 Review for Friday's Test

• Today, students had a vocabulary quiz over the graphing quadratics unit.
• Students worked in pairs to complete the review station activity. There were four stations to complete. Students will have additional time in class tomorrow to finish this activity.

9/20/11 Review for Friday's Test

• Today, we reviewed average rate of change, graphing quadratics, and writing equations in standard form.
• Classwork: Students completed the Graphing Review Day 2 Worksheet, and it was graded for accuracy.   Download Graphing Review Day 2

• There is a vocabulary quiz tomorrow over the vocabulary from the Graphing Quadratics Unit. Study your vocab cards!!!
• The unit test on Graphing Quadratics is this Friday, 9/23.

9/19/11 Average Rate of Change for a given interval

•  Today, we learned to find the average rate of change of a quadratic function for the given interval. To find the average rate of change, you calculate the slope between the two points using the slope formula.

9/16/11 Quiz over Graphing Quadratics

• Today, students completed a quiz over graphing quadratics.
• Students turned in their 12 vocabulary cards for the graphing quadratics unit.
• There is a vocabulary test on Wednesday, 9/21.
• The Graphing Quadratics Test is Friday, 9/23.
• Students need to buy their own index cards to complete the vocabulary cards!
